Coaches Information for the 2025 Season

Information for Coaches

City Tournament Important Info

Player Cards & Tournament Rosters - Player card packets have been mailed to all head coaches. ALL PLAYERS & COACHES must be on the signed tournament roster as well as have the photo card to participate and/or be on the team sideline. Be sure to print enough copies of your tournament roster to last throughout the entire tournament!

SCORES - Teams MUST report their scores promptly after each game. Go to the Schedules page here and use the Score Reporting form to enter your results.  Please read the directions on the form carefully and ONLY submit numeric scores.  The page includes directions for reporting scores when games go to Penalty Kicks.  Only one team needs to submit so if you don’t see your game listed, please check the bracket as it is likely already updated.  Teams are advanced automatically through the bracket so if you make a submission mistake that impacts the winner/loser please email sysaschedules@sysa.org.  Include any 'Good of the Game' comments about your positive experiences each match as well. We will post these throughout the tournament.

Sideline Policy - Spectators should plan to stand across the field from teams, not on the same side next to them. This is standard soccer tournament policy, and SYSA follows this for all City Tournament games. Only coaches on the roster should be on the team sideline.

Field Lights - Many games are played at night under the lights. Lights at all Seattle fields are scheduled to come on 30 minutes prior to the scheduled game time. Please do not call Seattle Parks requesting that lights be turned on before then. If you are the first game at a field and the lights do not come on 30 minutes prior to the scheduled game time, call this number: 1-855-330-8400.

Note: Field lights at Shorewood & Shorecrest high schools in Shoreline will only turn on 15 minutes prior to game time.

Field Goals

If the Goals are locked, please ask the ref for the code, as they should have them, or can get them by contacting the Referee leadership.

Practice Fields - SYSA reserves field time for teams to use on a drop-in, first-come basis during the City Tournament. Please share the space with whichever teams show up to practice. Fields may be removed from the list as needed, so please double check the list before showing up to the practice field. These fields and times are linked ot the City Tournament Schedules pages on the SYSA website. Note: All grass fields are now closed. Please do not use any grass fields in your neighborhood to practice.

CAUTION!! Car prowls are common at most fields!Do NOT leave anything important in your car and visible. Store items in the trunk or leave them at home.

Questions or comments on any of this information should be sent to anne.bare@sysa.org

Please read and follow the following instructions provided by SYSA:

Washington Youth Soccer (WYS) sets and manages the background check process for all member Associations in Washington state. SYSA and its member clubs must adhere to their requirements. Comments or concerns regarding the background check process should be sent directly to WYS staff Keli Bitow at kelib@washingtonyouthsoccer.org.

New this year, WYS has moved the required online training courses to the US Soccer Learning Center. Please use the instructions below to complete the required courses in the learning center.

If you already have an Affinity account from years past to register a child or to submit a background check: Before you begin, note your first name, last name, date of birth, and email address as listed in your member account. These four fields must match exactly in both Affinity and in the profile you create in the Learning Center, or your course completion status will not be synchronized. If you do not already have an Affinity account, you will create one at step 10.

1. Go to the Learning Center: U.S. Soccer Learning Center (ussoccer.com)

2. Create a Learning Center profile, check the terms of service boxes and submit (all volunteers should be a ‘coach’)

3. Check your inbox for the "email verification" receipt from the Learning Center. You MUST verify your email before you are able to proceed.

4. Log in to the Learning Center (link above).

5. Hover over "Courses" across the top of the page, then select "My Courses". You should have the appropriate SafeSport course listed as well as the learning center’s ‘Intro to Safety’.

Please note: For returning coaches, the appropriate SafeSport course will only be listed there if more than 10 months have passed since your last renewal. You will not need to renew SafeSport at this time if you completed SafeSport training in the late summer or fall, 2021.

6. Select either course to get started.

7. Now select ‘Assignments’ on the top left side of the page to open the course electronically.

8. You must complete both courses. You do not need to download your certificates.

9. Contact info@mblsoccer.org once completed. They will ensure that the course completion status for both courses have synced to your Affinity profile.

10. Once your registrar verifies your status, you can submit your background check through this link: Online Registration - LoginBe sure to select season Fall 2022. Should you have any issues with your member account in the US Soccer Learning Center, you must contact them directly, as SYSA staff does not have access to your member profile. Finally, please remember that last year, WYS added the SSN requirement to their background check application. If you are unable to provide WYS with a SSN, please complete the online courses as instructed above. Then, email Keli Bitow at WYS and she will work to submit your background check without a SSN.

SYSA and its recreational clubs are largely volunteer-run organizations. The SYSA staff recognizes that the last several years have brought numerous changes to the background check/RMA process, and we appreciate the time and dedication that you have each used to ensure that you are properly approved to participate with the kids in SYSA. Thank you all very much!
